3rd Birthday Parties - Elegant and Sophisticated

We love doing 3rd Birthday Parties. Ok, so this was not a typical 3 year old kids party. It was the Marquee Sydney at the Star 3rd birthday.
We had some fabulous personalised large balloons throughout the club.  We sprayed them all white for extra impact.  The Happy Bday around the bar was the first thing that guests saw as they entered the room.  Big impact and a guaranteed great night coming up.

Obviously it isn't a celebration without Miss Australia, Richard Wilkins and some lovely ladies to cut the cake. Note the awesome photo "balloon backdrop"

We did a number of bunches to highlight the fact that this was a 3rd Birthday.  We tried to replicate the cake design and colour with the number 3.  Having everything matching adds to the atmosphere of elegance andsophistication.

...speaking of elegance and sophistication...!!.

Here is a full shot of the media wall .  Our "piece de resistance".  As with Marquee, I am happy to design an effect that will suit the needs of your celebration or launch.  Here I did the large number 3 and 6 large round balloons with silk draping spilling down to the floor.  We couldn't find a celebrity for this shot, so I had to pretend.  Good news - I'm not giving up my day job!!  Enjoy!!

Batmitzvah...and more 3' balloon ideas

The main feature was certainly the buffet table.  The client had made the letters of their daughters name and we used the brand new 3' polka dot clear balloons to highlight this.  We put 11' balloons inside each of the 3' balloons to make it blend beautifully with the rest of the decor.  We also sourced some fabulous hot pink polka dot boxes and added orange masterbows to anchor all the balloons.  The whole thing was gorgeous!!

We added some big colour at the guests tables without blocking the million dollar view of the Pacific Ocean

Then we employed the 3' balloons on the dancefloor.  The large balloons had two purposes.  The first was to create the traditional divide on the dancefloor to keep the sexes seperated.  The second was to again put some colour into the huge ceiling void.

We achieved our objective....and most importantly our client was very happy.

Big 3' Balloons for Big Spaces

3' Balloons are a bit of a favourite of mine.  They can be used to great effect in a number of different ways.  They are the best way of using big colour to fill in a large space, and create big colour impact.  Here are just a few ways we use big balloons at MAD Balloons.
Professionals Awards Night - 3' squiggle tower.

massive table bunch for the Wiggles/VW event.

3' balloons as table centrepieces in a very tall venue

3' balloon as comets with trailing star tails.
Some on the floor and some in the air

Starpoint Stage Wall

Here is a fantastic design concept that I saw at World Balloon Convention in Dallas recently.  My client was looking for something with the Wow factor for their awards night and here is what we came up with for them.  The main challenges was that we could not get into the venue until just before 5pm, and the guests were arriving at 6.45pm

This awesome stage display wall features the starpoint and 3' balloons.  We cold not hang it due to time constraints, so it had to be free standing - helium filled.  We added sparkle lights to give it that extra bit of zing.  Good news was the client absolutely loved it.

WBC - Friday classs and challenges

I must apologise that I do not have a great deal of photos for today. I spent the morning doing judging and prep for my class, and then teaching in the afternoon, so I was not "out and about" as much as I had been.

Anyway, I taught the Decor with Really BIG Balloons class today, and we had some fun, that is for sure. Here we all are with our 5.5' balloons and material.

For this class, I had to purchase all the material and bring it with me. My mum cam to my rescue and overlocked and hemmed the 4mtr lengths of material so they would be presentable. I was grateful and so were the people who attended my class.

The classroom door was not wide enough for us to fit the balloons through, so we went into the hotel foyer so we could continue and inflate the 8' balloons

After classes we had to run some challenges and a jam room for the delegates. Mala and I were put on challenges booth number two, and we had some fun. The jamroom continued until after 2am.

Mala decided we needed some aussie icons on our table at the final night dinner tomorrow night, so she managed to wangle in a kangaroo twisting contest (nice one Mala), and here are the three winners. They all went with the boxing kangaroo theme.

Sydney Roosters 2012 Season Opener

Our friends at the Sydney Roosters NRL Team wanted to start their first home game with a bang. They asked us to assist in this endeavour.

So, we created an arch to span the new promenade area (still under construction)at Allianz (SFS) Stadium. Here is Hannah and Wendy holding the arch....smile ladies!

The punters could all see the arch from some distance as they approached the stadium, and they all got to walk under it.
Go Roosters!!

They also wanted to have a sea of red, white and blue on the field to pay tribute to the late Arthur 'Artie' Beetson. Bring in 300 kids from the local footy teams and give them a 16" balloon each, and let them loose on the ground.

300x16" balloons distributed in double quick time was a bit of a logistical challenge, but the balloons definitely did the trick. A sea of red, white and blue.

It is noteworthy that the Roosters paid extra to do the right thing, and have a balloon weight individually tied to each of the 300 balloons, so the NSW State Gov't (illogical)law of not releasing balloons could be adhered to.

The Roosters had hoped the release the balloons at the end of the memorial to farewell Big Artie. Would have been a powerful and lovely gesture, and I have been to funerals (in other states) where this has taken place. However, in the great state of NSW the government has a ban on this practice - no other state has this ban, mind you....just NSW.....!!

Really BIG 3' Balloons

A really big room, such as the Lake Room at Waterview Convention Centre Homebush, requires some really big balloons to make it look sensational.
We created this effect for the Teachers Credit Union cocktail event recently. I thought it was pretty fantastic, but what did the client think?

Hi David,

I just wanted to thank you for your excellent service and the delivery of a room that looked amazing.
We had so many comments about the balloons - they were an absolute hit and quite a few people have asked for your contact details.
Hope to have the opportunity to work with you again.

Sharan

I think that means that they liked it!!

Dessert Buffets

Have you noticed all the people doing wonderful things with dessert buffets recently? Very cool I reckon.

I love it. Amy Atlas is the one in the US who does this for the superstars, but we get many requests to replicate the balloon part of the whole set up. Some of the dessert bars we have decorated have so many tempting treats...

let's celebrate AMELIA

This is just a short post to show you another way to personalise large star foil balloons. Last post was adding JW letters to one star. This post is about adding one letter to each star. A great effect and one that comes up really well in the photos.

We did this design for Amelia's christening. It was over the cake table ready for the big moment when mum and dad cut the cake, while proudly holding Amelia.

"Take Flight"....into a new office space

I was called in to Microsoft to assist in the launch of their new offices and workspaces. Encouraging innovation in their staff they wantd them to 'take flight', and what better way to illustrate this theme than with balloons.

Using a number of sizes, from 16", 24" and 3' balloons, we set about the task. Also wanting their staff to bend their minds Microsoft required some "balloon bending".
I was having fun with this one. We used some 5.5' balloons for this purpose.

Then to the cafe area for some ceiling work. Not able to create the balloons in midair, we created an illusion of the ballons magically hanging up in the ceiling (no hooks and no helium involved here) to create a bit of a random, think outside the square and go with the flow effect.

You get a better idea of the cafe look from this picture. Taking flight and ideas cascading all over the place.

This is the only office photo that I can use here. Security. We had large 3' balloons placed through the offices as well as 250 of the yellow 15" single bubbles distributed to the workstations (not able to take photos of the workstations).
The installation was required to last for 2 weeks. No problems. I used Ultra Hi Float and most of it lasted three weeks.

I need an entry to WOW the audience!

The rock band Good Charlotte came to Sydney last November for one concert at Luna Park in the Big Top. The entry of the Big Top is a bit 'industrial' looking, so the client wanted to transform it to a WOW area. As well as transforming ugly to WOW, the client wanted to create a physical barrier to keep the audience away from the sound box and other AV and lighting equipment that was up the back.

The budget was not excessive, but we were able to create the WOW they were after using the fantastic 40" starpoints. We linked these together to create two 16 metre walls that fitted perfectly from floor to ceiling. It created the physical barrier as well as the WOW that was required.

The client was ecstatic with the finished product and the fact that we were on budget. She had looked at a number of other options but most were outside her strict budget.
As they say on the A-Team "I love it when a plan comes together!"

Terrific TAPERS

...So in the last post we looked at the starpoints. This post features the other part of the new design - the terrific tapers.
Very simplistic in their line and form, but they allow great creativity and are hugely versatile. You can see how we use them below.

taper topiary balls and a funky design

and great if you ned to fill a big space like Parramatta Leagues Club Auditorium (before 2009 NRL Grand Final)

You can also have a bit of some magic flowers hovering in mid air as a different type of entry for your guests.

and want something around the office to add some colour but not get in the way - the blue and gold theme here again.

so give the tapers a go, and let your imagination run wild

The "MAD" girls

I would just like to introduce my four fabulous, fun female staff members (note the alliteration). Ian and I stayed on the other side of the lens (so we didn't crack the camera).

Katherine, Alicia, Jessica and Wendy. We have had the busiest October and November of the whole of the 18 years I have been in business. On Thursday 3rd December, we had a day full of jobs. Back to the workshop which as you can see is already full of large balloons - a quick dinner and then The Telstra 500 V8 supercars installation at Sydney Olympic Park. The fact that the girls can raise a smile after 10 hours work (with another 6 hours ahead) is a credit to them.

These four ladies are all highly talented individuals and their dedication makes a real contribution to the success of MAD Balloons. I couldn't do it without them. You can see some of their fabulous work with BIG balloons that was achieved at Homebush station SOP a short time after our healthy and nutritious dinner.
Love your work ladies!!
